Trail Running Tips From our Trail Experts- Barb and Sue

Trail tip for the week;   Miss Manners speaks out on Trail Etiquette

We have run for the last few weeks on some very different trails but in each case we encountered other people out enjoying biking, running, walking.

Here are a few things to keep in mind so that all can enjoy their time with nature on the trails

1. Don’t litter. If you are gone for a long run and have taken food or gels to help refuel, ensure that you have a fanny pack or pocket to keep the wrappers with you until you get home.

2. Most trailheads have designated parking areas. Do your best to respect these areas and avoid parking your car on the side of the road or somebody’s private property.

3. Training with a partner or group is a wonderful way to stay motivated but keep in mind most trails are narrow. Watch out for the other guy who is coming towards you or trying to pass from behind. It is not fair to make the others go “off roading” to get around your large group that will appear to be monopolizing the trail.

4. Respect nature – stay on the trails whenever possible. Lots of small animals and birds nest on the ground - so watch your step if you stray from the trail. Some animals and birds are very territorial especially if they have young ones around so please, this is their home you are visiting,  respect it accordingly.
